How to Get Help for Your Child

at Growing Together

Skill range:  We tutor children of all ages who need help with reading, writing, and English at kindergarten through eighth grade levels and math through fifth grade level.

Who may apply:  Parents who cannot afford to pay professional tutoring rates for enough sessions per week to meet their children's needs.

Application:  To apply for tutoring or to get further information, call 240-645-7869 or e-mail

When you ask to apply, we will set up an appointment for your child to come to Shepherd Park Branch Library  or Long Branch Library for evaluation.  (See Home page for address.) Bring the latest report card and standardized test results as well as any other background information you may have.  We will assess the student to determine the nature of academic problems and to choose books and materials on the right level of difficulty to strengthen weak areas.  The parent(s) will fill out a registration form and select the days and hours for tutoring each week. See home page for days, hours, and  library address.

Tutoring is free of charge:  Parents who are able to do so contribute to our expenses incurred by working with their children, providing books, materials, and Saturday snacks at the library. Actual tutoring is free because we have volunteer tutors trained and supervised by our director, an experienced professional teacher/tutor. No  child who needs tutoring is turned away for inability to contribute toward their expenses.
